O’ Say Can You See! The Star Spangled Banner turns 200 years old this summer. Luckily for you, you happen to go to school in the city in which it was written! Fort McHenry, located across from the Inner Harbor in Baltimore was being bombarded by the Royal Navy during the War of 1812. A young lawyer and amateur poet named Francis Scott Key wrote the lines of our National Anthem as he witnessed the event and saw our nation’s flag flying over the walls of the Fort.
This year, the city of Baltimore plays host to many events honoring the anniversary of the famous song and there’s plenty of ways to join in the festivities! Two marquee and FREE events are being hosted this Saturday and Sunday. Check out the details below and visit the event’s website to find out the entire schedule of events and activities.
